Iona - The Day of the Event

On the day of the event, I arrived at college around 8.30 in order to give myself time to prepare for the event which started at 9am. I carried the cakes and truffles from the car and into the college building. I then began to sort all the odd numbers from the tickets in order to sort the tombola and raffle. An odd number was placed on each tombola prize and the other matching ticket was placed into the bag for customer to choose. There were a few different people as well as myself who were placing the tickets onto the prizes which made it confusing when the event was taking place as some people had not stuck to the odd numbers only rule. This also made it difficult when us and the customers were trying to find their prize which resulted in us taking off the majority of numbers and starting again. The numbers of the tombola were also not in ascending order which made it harder for us to find them and meant that we had to reorganise them during the event.

The cake stall was successful giving the amount of cakes and truffles that were available and there were only around 20 left at the end of the event. The remaining cakes were given away to customers for free at the end of the day. Both the cakes and truffles were sold for 50p during the event. Most of the customers who were taking part in the raffle or tombola were buying a cake or truffle.

The tombola stand was very successful as was not empty at any part of the day. All of the prizes had gone at around 11.30am and we would have benefitted from having more prizes available, even though we already had plenty, which would have helped us raise more money.

The I’m a Student activity was the least popular as people were wary of putting their hand into a box of the unknown. However, we had around 6 or 7 participants which still helped us raise additional money.

Each person did not stick to their designated stall and helped overall where required which was a vital part in the success of our three stalls. Overall, we raised approximately £157 for the three stalls for Jak’s Den.
